Energy Safety
As youll see in this Web site, electricity and natural gas
help us every day in our lives. For example, they help us
keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. They cook
our food, warm our water and clean our clothes. The list
goes on and on!
Its very important to remember that electricity and
natural gas are powerful and we must be careful when using
them.
Electricity Safety
- Never stick your finger or any object into light sockets or electrical outlets.
- Do not pull on cords to unplug them. Hold on to the plug or have a parent help you do this.
- Never touch broken electrical cords or ones that have wire showing.
- Stay away from fallen power lines.
- Do not fly kites near power lines. If your kite gets stuck in a power line, don't try to get it down.
- Do not climb power poles or trees close to power lines.
- Stay away from trees growing near power lines. Even tree branches can conduct electricity.
- Dont touch anything electrical when you are wet. Do not touch light switches or hair dryers.
Natural Gas Safety
Natural gas is great for heating, cooking and other uses in your home.
Although natural gas accidents don’t happen often, be sure to follow these safety tips:
