FEBRUARY POWER RATES FALL ON FUEL
ATHENS, Tenn. – Local power rates in February will be a bit lower than the current month based on lower TVA fuel charges.
The residential power rate for Athens Utilities Board (AUB) customers in February will be $0.08846 per kilowatt hour (kwhr) compared to January’s rate of $0.09051.
The lower rate for February would save a customer using the residential average of 1,160 kwhrs about $2.38 versus the same use at January rates.
Residential rates have two components. One part is the base rate, which remains constant during each season, and there is a fuel-charge adder from TVA that changes monthly.
For the winter months December through February the base rate is $0.07123 per kwhr. February’s fuel charge is $.01723. Added together, the two yield the month’s full rate of $0.08846.
AUB is one of 154 local power distributors that directly serve the 10 million people of the Tennessee Valley seven-state region. AUB also serves Athens and parts of McMinn County with water, wastewater, and natural gas services.
