ATHENS, Tenn. —As part of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s (TDOT) work to widen Hwy. 30, TDOT crews this week will relocate and connect a new wastewater main to a manhole located at the Elizabeth St. intersection.
The work will be done overnight, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. beginning Wednesday, September 26, and will continue for at least a few days.
AUB is not directing or performing any of the work related to the road closing. But with the utility’s infrastructure involved, an AUB inspector from the wastewater division will be at the worksite overnight throughout the duration of the work.
The partial road closure of Elizabeth St. at the Hwy. 30 end will result in detours for drivers as heavy equipment, trucks, and contracting personnel will be in the area. TDOT has planned several detour routes with ample signage to direct traffic to and from Elizabeth St. from surrounding streets and neighborhoods.
Drivers will be able to access Charlotte St., Brewer St., and Holt St., located off of Elizabeth St., by way of Cedar Springs Rd.
