ATHENS, Tenn. – Work by power division crews from Athens Utilities Board this Sunday, March 31, will temporarily close a short section of the northbound lane of Hwy. 305 (Ingleside Ave.) near the E. G. Fisher Public Library.

The work will begin at 7 a.m. and end by noon.

It involves not only removing old and stringing new power distribution wire but also replacing a power pole just north of the library, near the long curve that passes the Woodward Avenue intersection with Hwy. 305.

Throughout the work, AUB will have traffic control in place including traffic cones, flashing lights for high visibility, and crewmembers stationed on either end of the curve using “stop-go” signs to control the flow of traffic well before the curve.

“Our crewmembers that will be flagging for safety will maintain constant radio communications with one another to ensure that only one direction of traffic at a time flows through the work zone,” said AUB’s Wayne Scarbrough.

AUB urges travelers along the route to use caution for the safety of the workers and the public.

“We will have equipment and people out in the northbound lane near the library during this project.  This stretch of highway is always busy and especially so during the work week, so we chose early Sunday morning in hopes of working in minimal traffic,” Scarbrough said.
