ATHENS, Tenn. – Work by power division crews from Athens Utilities Board (AUB) on Tuesday, May 7 will temporarily close one lane on Hwy. 305 (Ingleside Avenue) from Woodward Avenue to Guille Street near Ingleside School.

The actual work zone will involve the stretch of Hwy. 305 from E.G. Fisher Public Library to Mayfield Lane.

Crews will begin work at 8:15 a.m. to avoid morning school traffic and will complete work at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday evening or earlier if the work goes smoothly.

AUB crews will be in the area before the start time to prepare for the day-long job, but traffic will not be affected until 8:15 a.m.

This is the first phase of two for an Ingleside Avenue rebuild project. It includes streetlight change outs, installation of new and more robust power lines in place of aging lines, and pole cross-arm change outs.

Throughout the work, AUB will have traffic control in place including traffic cones, flashing lights for high visibility, and crewmembers stationed on either end of the traffic zone using “stop-go” signs to control the flow of traffic.

Crewmembers will direct the one-lane travel from Guille Street to Woodward Avenue to ensure motorists can pass safely through the work zone.

“Our crewmembers that will be flagging for safety will maintain constant radio communications with one another to ensure that only one direction of traffic at a time flows through the work zone,” said AUB’s Wayne Scarbrough.

AUB urges travelers along the route to use caution for the safety of the workers and the public, especially during school pick up times from nearby Ingleside Elementary School.

“We will have equipment and people out in the roadway during this project.  This stretch of highway is always busy and especially so during the work week,” Scarbrough said.

AUB crews will work the first phase to completion on Tuesday to minimize the number of affected customers, including a nearby church, that will be without power during the work.

In the case of inclement weather, the backup date for the work will be Tuesday, May 14.
