For Second Year Running AUB United Way Campaign Sets Record

FOR SECOND YEAR RUNNING

AUB UNITED WAY CAMPAIGN

SETS RECORD

Athens, Tenn.— Just as in the fall of 2018 one year ago, employees of Athens Utilities Board (AUB) have set a new company record for giving by personally contributing $34,418.40 to this year’s United Way of McMinn and Meigs County fundraising campaign.

AUB’s Phil Graves, who oversees the campaign internally for the utility, said that nearly 70 percent of the utility’s workforce contributed.

“That’s pretty remarkable,” Graves said.  “But this group comes through every year and throughout the year when there is a need to be filled.”

Of the 68 employees joining the effort to “Live United” pursuant to United Way’s philosophy, 38 pledged to give one hour’s pay per month, a level known as Fair-Share giving.

Another 29 AUB employees including field and office staff gave at the President’s Council level of at least $500.

“It’s the type of unselfish gesture that makes me proud to work among this group of people.  Not only do they give us their best at work, they also know what it means to give back monetarily to the community and what a difference it makes,” Graves said.

AUB General Manager Eric Newberry also applauded the employees’ generosity.

“Every one of these individuals opens his or her wallet for the campaign because they make a personal decision to do make a difference.

“At AUB, there is no pressure and no one is judged on their participation in the campaign.  They do it because it is in their personal makeup to serve and to give back, which, to me, makes our contribution level even more meaningful,” Newberry said.
