OCTOBER POWER RATE UP A LITTLE FROM SEPTEMBER
The power rate from Athens Utilities Board (AUB) for the coming month of October will increase somewhat from the September rate.
The local power rate will move from the current $0.09831 up to $0.09858 per kilowatt hour as “transition rates” take effect and replace the summer rate.
Transition rates are the lowest of the year, with a base of $0.07505 per kilowatt hour. The fuel charge for October will be $0.02353 per kilowatt hour.
“This is normally a time where ratepayers see some of the lowest rates of the year, however, with the recent 4.5% rate increase by TVA and the loss of the COVID Pandemic Credit, rates will stay about the same as they were in the summer,” stated AUB’s Amy McDonald.
“This is the time of year when customers can save a bit of money on their power bill because we have transition rates in effect, and the weather should moderate so that customers don’t have to use a lot of cooling or heating in their home,” she said.
The transition rate season will be in effect for the months of October and November.
We all know that wintertime brings colder temperatures and that means higher energy use for heating, so saving the money now to apply it in later months can pay off.
About 82 cents of every dollar that AUB’s power division collects go to TVA for wholesale power.
