JANUARY POWER RATES TAKE A RISE VS DECEMBER

The power rate from Athens Utilities Board (AUB) for the coming month of January will increase somewhat as winter rates from TVA continue and as the TVA fuel cost ratchets up a bit.

The residential power rate for Athens Utilities Board (AUB) customers in January will be $0.10120 per kilowatt hour (kwhr) compared to December’s rate of $0.09862.

The January fuel cost from TVA is going up to $0.02399 compared to December’s $.0.02141.

Residential rates have two components.  There is the base rate, which remains constant during each season, and a fuel-charge adder from TVA that changes monthly.

With both December and January being winter-season base rate months, the January rise in rates rests in a higher fuel charge from TVA, said AUB’s Amy McDonald.

AUB is one of 154 local power distributors that directly serve the 10 million people of the Tennessee Valley seven-state region.  AUB also serves Athens and parts of McMinn County with water, wastewater, and natural gas services.
