ATHENS UTILIITES BOARD CONGRATULATES PAUL HOUK ON EARNING JOURNEYMAN LINEMAN STATUS

Athens Utilities Board is proud to recognize and congratulate Paul Houk on officially earning the title of Journeyman Lineman. This achievement marks a major milestone in Paul’s career, one defined by dedication, adaptability, and a deep passion for public service.

Paul began his journey with AUB in July of 2018 as an Engineering Technician, where he performed a range of duties including power line staking and design. It was during this time, working alongside the line crew, that he discovered a strong interest in linework. Encouraged by his peers, Paul entered the AUB apprentice program in January of 2020 and steadily progressed through the rigorous training with determination and focus.

“Paul is a natural leader,” said AUB Superintendent of Power David St. John. “He’s extremely intelligent, a very hard worker, and someone the crew naturally looks to. He’s also one of only two linemen who handle our equipment installs and work on our 200-foot communication towers—a responsibility that takes both skill and grit.”

Paul has found genuine fulfillment in the job. “There’s so much I love about the work,” he shared. “Being outside, tackling challenges during storm response, and knowing you’re doing something that matters—it keeps me motivated. I look forward to every day.”

When asked about future aspirations, Paul responded with humility and wisdom: “I want to live in the present, taking one day at a time. Proverbs says, ‘A man plans his ways but the Lord establishes his steps.’ That has always given me a lot of peace in life.”

Outside of work, Paul is a devoted husband to his wife, Lexie, and proud father to three children—Stella, Liam, and Arlo. When he's not working or spending time with family, he enjoys maintaining his land and playing golf—though with three little ones, golf has taken a backseat for now.
