AUB RELEASES 2024 ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORT

— The Athens Utilities Board (AUB) has released its 2024 Annual Water Quality Report, offering customers a comprehensive look at where their water comes from and how it’s monitored, tested, and treated throughout the year.

The report details the sources of AUB’s water supply, the treatment process, and the results of rigorous water sampling and testing conducted across the entire system during 2024. Once again, AUB’s water quality met or surpassed all state and federal standards.

“To ensure the highest quality, we continuously test water from our wells, springs, treatment plant, and locations throughout the distribution system — even at select homes and businesses,” said Boone Walker of AUB. “This report gives our customers a transparent view of how we maintain safe, clean drinking water year-round.”

AUB’s drinking water is primarily sourced from Ingleside Spring and nearby groundwater wells that tap an aquifer along Oostanaula Creek. Water is treated at AUB’s filtration plant. A third source, the Hiwassee Utilities Commission, supplements the supply with treated water drawn from the Hiwassee River.

The 2024 report is now available online at www.aub.org under the “Documents Library” section of the homepage. Printed copies can be picked up at AUB’s drive-thru window at 100 New Englewood Road or requested by phone at (423) 745-4501. Additional copies will be placed at key locations throughout the service area, including schools, nursing homes, municipal buildings, and industrial sites.

“We are fortunate in our region to have plentiful water resources,” said Walker. “And we take great pride in being your trusted source for clean, reliable drinking water.”
