AUB ISSUES ANNUAL WATER QUALITY REPORT

Athens Utilities Board (AUB) has completed its annual Water Quality Report for the 2025 reporting year and is now making the document available to customers and the public.

The report provides detailed information about the sources of AUB’s drinking water, the treatment processes used, and the results of extensive water sampling and testing conducted throughout the year.

During the reporting period, AUB’s water quality met or exceeded all state and federal standards.

To maintain high-quality water across the system, AUB conducts testing year-round at its wells and springs, at the treatment plant, throughout the distribution system, and at selected homes and businesses.

“The Water Quality Report gives our customers a transparent look at where their water comes from and the steps we take every day to ensure it is safe and reliable,” said AUB Regulatory Compliance Specialist Boone Walker. “It also shows how our water compares to strict state and federal standards.”

AUB’s drinking water is sourced from Ingleside Spring and from wells that draw from an underground aquifer alongside Oostanaula Creek in Athens. This water is treated at AUB’s filtration plant. In addition, the Hiwassee Utilities Commission supplements the system with treated surface water from the Hiwassee River.

The 2025 Water Quality Report is available on AUB’s website in the “Documents Library” section or by visiting: https://www.aub.org/uploads/wqr2025.pdf.

“We are fortunate in the Tennessee Valley to have abundant water resources that support everything from daily life to industry and recreation,” Walker said. “AUB is proud to provide our community with safe, clean, and dependable drinking water.”

Printed copies of the report are available at AUB’s drive-through window located at 100 New Englewood Road in Athens, by calling (423) 745-4501, and will also be distributed to locations throughout the service area, including schools, nursing homes, industrial facilities, and municipal buildings.
