Second State License For AUB's Chase Farrar

ATHENS, Tenn. – Chase Farrar is Athens Utilities Board’s (AUB) latest employee to receive a state license within his field of work. He began his career with AUB as a wastewater operator and has since moved to the water division in the same position.

In 2015, Farrar was searching for a long-term position with more stability and found it at AUB. His past occupations include sawmill work and, at one time, working alongside his father in the excavating and logging industries.

“I believe that my past job experiences led me to where I am today because I am very familiar with hard work and manual labor.

“I truly appreciate the stability AUB provides for my family and the opportunities to better myself,” Farrar said.

While working toward the first license in wastewater, Farrar had to complete a sixteen-month apprenticeship needed for initial certification.

Farrar recently passed the State Water Distribution Grade 2 Exam, a four-hour test, needed for the second license.

“Being certified in both water and wastewater is particularly helpful for AUB because of the way we handle after-hours work.  Our crew members frequently cross over and perform work for another division; water to wastewater and vice versa,” said AUB Water/Wastewater Superintendent, Craig Brymer.

“Chase can respond to a problem in either division and be more than just a helper. On top of that, he is a motivated worker and a good person. He is a valued, and valuable, member of the AUB team,” said Brymer.

When he moved from one division to the other, Farrar made the decision to pursue another certification knowing that the workload would be taken home with him.

“The decision to move forward with getting another license was exciting but also involved some maneuvering with my home schedule and after-hours work,” Farrar said.

However, Farrar could not discount the “upward movement and future opportunities” that may follow this accomplishment.

Farrar and his wife, Emily, have three children, Jake, Paisley, and Chance. They are long-time residents of McMinn County.
