ATHENS — Local homeowners and small businesses beware.
An AUB customer on Alford Street today reported that a man came to her residence and said he was there to collect for AUB to avoid termination of services.
The customer alertly told the man that she would contact AUB to check on the account status, as she was certain her bill had been paid.
The man said that his name was “Jason” and even left a phone number for the customer to call, which of course was bogus.
The resident then called AUB and confirmed that her account was in good standing and that the next bill on the account was not due for several days.
AUB does not knock on doors seeking to collect payment. Any AUB personnel who approach a residence regarding AUB work will have shirts and hats with the AUB insignia as well as company issued photo ID with the worker’s name and assigned work division, such as Power, Water, Wastewater, or Gas clearly displayed.
AUB recommends that if you get such a visit or call to your residence or place of business, do as this customer did and call AUB at (423) 745-4501 to check the status of your account.
