ATHENS, Tenn. – Local electric power rates for October will drop by about 1.7 percent compared to current September power rates despite a base rate increase that take effect that month.
TVA has announced a base rate power rate increase of 1.5 percent at retail, effective Oct. 1.
Even so, the effective rate paid by local AUB power customers will be lower because the fuel component of the effective rate is falling month over month, and because October is a “transition” month in TVA’s rate scheme, said AUB’s Wayne Scarbrough.
Transition months have lower base rates by design compared to summer and winter base rates.
The AUB residential power rate for October will be $0.08771 per kilowatt hour compared to September’s rate of $0.08920.
